Imagine that you have in your Excel table of GPS coordinates and you want to convert them from one coordinate system to another. If you use the GIS.XL add-in, you only need to take 3 simple steps: create point shapefile layer in the current coordinate system (WGS84) change the projection of Map Panel (with created shapefile) to the desired. The syntax is utm.fromlatlon(LATITUDE, LONGITUDE). The return has the form (EASTING, NORTHING, ZONENUMBER, ZONELETTER). You can also use NumPy arrays for LATITUDE and LONGITUDE.In the result EASTING and NORTHING will have the same shape.ZONENUMBER and ZONELETTER are scalars and will be calculated for the first point of the input. All other points will be set into the same UTM zone. If converting to UTM, the column ToUtmZone is supported. The column is optional. The allowed values are the numbers 1 to 60.
